MY TOP PICKS FOR BREASTFEEDING-ON-THE-GO

by Jennifer Brenan (breastfeedingneeds.com)

My Favorite Must-Have Products for Breastfeeding-on-the-Go

I've had three babies and have perfected breastfeeding-on-the-go, but it wasn't always this way. When I was a new first time mom I was nervous about breastfeeding while out and about. I wondered if people would look at me, and I was self conscious in my postpartum body. I remember struggling with covers and trying to work with multiple shirts to keep myself feeling covered. While this works okay, I find it much easier to find the right kind of clothing for breastfeeding. This makes me more confident in my ability to breastfeed anywhere.

My favorite products for breastfeeding-on-the-go are an amazing nursing bra, and a top made for breastfeeding. This combination makes it easy to get my baby latched quickly and without fuss. When my baby is hungry the last thing I want to do is mess with trying to pull my shirt up or down, or pull out a cover. I believe this draws more attention and makes feeding on-the-go harder than it needs to be.

Bravado Designs makes most of my favorite nursing bras including the new Buttercup Nursing Bra . It has wonderful support and comfort without an underwire, and it looks great under clothes. Like all Bravado Designs nursing bras, the clips are easy to operate one-handed, and the foam cup fully drops down to accommodate skin-to-skin breastfeeding.

This Baju Mama Cloe Banded Cross Over Nursing Top is an example of how breastfeeding clothes can work for you. The top drapes with a few thin comfortable pieces of fabric which can be pulled aside to make breastfeeding easy. I have actually been able to walk around and breastfeed while out with tops like this. It took me a couple of kids to perfect that skill but with the right clothing, it's definitely possible.

It's hard to believe, but when I started my breastfeeding journey I only had one nursing bra and no nursing tops. I've come a long way since then, and I now know my fears about breastfeeding in public were unfounded. Still, I definitely recommend getting some nursing bras and tops. Anything which makes a nursing mom feel more confident, and breastfeeding-on-the-go easier, is a win for me.
